Biocompatible Dentistry
Biocompatible Dentistry is a holistic approach that stresses the use of nontoxic restorative materials for dental treatment and focuses on the impact that dental toxins and hidden dental infections can have on overall health.
In the same way that some people have adverse reactions to prescription drugs, some people also react negatively to specific dental materials. What we seem to forget is that the mouth is the “Doorway to your Health.” If you were to to buy a horse, the first thing that the veterinarian would do is look in the horse’s mouth to give them an overall view of the animal’s health. We have basically separated the patient’s head from their body, thus allowing Dentists and Physicians to work separately instead of symbiotically for the betterment of their patient’s health.
In the 1950’s, Dr. Reinhold Boll, M.D., of Germany, discovered that each tooth in the mouth relates to a specific acupuncture meridian. He found that if a tooth became infected, diseased or had a heavy metal in it (for example a silver-mercury filling), the organ on the same meridian could also become unhealthy. The opposite also holds true – dysfunction in a specific organ could lead to a problem in the corresponding tooth. Thus, the whole body connection cannot be ignored when diagnosing the cause of health problems.
We live in a world that is becoming increasingly toxic and we are faced with an unprecedented increase of stress in our lives. It is imperative that we do all that we can to prevent these negative forces’ effects on our health – AND we must never forget that our oral environment’s health is as important as the rest of our body.
It is believed that the next great advancement in medicine will come from dentistry. Out of necessity, Biocompatible Dentistry and its concern for total body health will become the dental medicine of the 21st century.
